Hdmi Cables
Greg is getting ready to go the the shop. He puts on his shoes, shorts and ear muffs. As he gets up to leave his fiddly foot gets caught on if laptop cable, as he walks away, strangely the laptop follows him for a moment , then crashes to the floor. “SHE BURNS, MY LAPTOP ,SHE BURNS” screams greg. Pam looks over her shoulder, “no silly ,it’s just broken. Go to the store later and purchase a new one , we needed a new one anyways”.
At the store greg paces up and down the electronic aisle for 86 hours. confused by all he new feature the laptops have he grows tired and goes home. “The bloody laptops did not even have a S-video output, what he heck is hdmi port?”
Recently a lot of my friends and colleagues have asked me questions like,” What is HDMI, where is my S-video out, why does my USB pen drive not fit into the hole(HAHAHA ) etc.
So, I figured if so many people don’ know(often even the ones who “think” they do) I would make a little tutorial explaining it. It took me awhile to get around to it, but here it is.
HDMI was designed in December 2002 and was released in 2003. Over 850 consumer electronics and PC companies have adopted HDMI (not bad at all). The acronym HDMI stands for “ High-Definition Multimedia Interface”. Basically it is a compact video and audio interface which sends uncompressed digital data. If you did not understand that it basically means it can take the place of S-video,composite video, SCART, Component video,VGA, D-Terminal, Radio Frequency and coaxial cable. You can connect HDMI to Video or/and audio source like a TV, computer monitor, set-top box, computer, video game consoles(Playstation 3 Xbox 360 etc.), blu-ray disk players, and AV receivers .
If you think about it, it’s quite amazing, one single little cable supports , all tv or pc video formats, including standard, enhanced and high-def video. It can handle up to 8 audio channels and a CE connection. CE connection allows HDMI devices to control each other,or if you want you can control multiple devices with a single remote control.

All in all HDMI if the BEST way to connect HD.
So what are you waiting for..you..greg..go buy they great computer you saw , and don’t let that HDMI scare you .Its time to truly experience HD and you can do it all through a single cable. Although if your other electronics are also too old they most probably will not have a HDMI connector . If you stuff is really too old , you might want to consider slowly updating them . HDMI is emerging as the standard for HD TV and consumer electronics, and rightly so they are the first to put HD video and audio into a single cable. It make things so much easier to set up. Imagine you home entertainment system all on a single cable. No more tangled mess or wires and boxes. It’s also quite cost efficient because you only need one cable.
There are 4 types of HDMI connectors.
TYPE A
This is the type that you will most likely encounter, it has 19 pins which have bandwidth to support all SDTV,EDTV and HDTV. The outside dimensions of the plug are 13.9mm x 4.45mm.
A TYPE A HDMI connector is electrically compatible with a single link DVI-D.
TYPE B
This connector has 29 pins and has double the bandwidth of type A.
It will be used in future displays witch have very high resolutions.
It is electrically compatible with a dual link DVI-D.
This connector has not yet been used in any products.
TYPE C
This is a mini connector and it is supposed to be used with portable devices
Type D is also miniconnector ,it keeps the standard 19 pins of Types A and C but shrinks the connector size to something resembling a micro-USB connector.
All in all HDMI if the BEST way to connect HD.
