They Are Known As Temporary Files – If Only That Were Not A Lie

A problem with a slow computer is not a problem that you have to accept and resign yourself to. The truth is that the resolution to the problem of a slow running computer is easy to find and simple to employ. Many of the anwers can be implemented for free by yourself if you are ready devote a little of your time or they can be instituted fairly inexpensively by a trained geek.

A little disclaimer about this article for any of you who are extremely technical. I am publishing this article for the average computer user like my Dad who not only does not know about the inner inner works of a computer but also candidly does not want to know. I am going to greatly oversimplify many of the details so that my Dad can have a rough idea of what is happening and comprehend the concepts. So please do not flame me for misquoting the exact ratios used for a flux capacitor. That being said let’s move on.

There are eight chief spots where the software on your computer is liable of corruption or corrosion over time. The causes for suscetiblity in each part are varied and the answers are varied as well. The focus of our talk today is going to be the second most plentiful and visible area of worry and that is temporary file buildup. If you would like to find the solutions to all eight issues, visit my website where you will find tons of valuable information.

Your system depends heavily on temporary files and the existence of these files is normal. These files store bits of information that the pc has previously used and now has stored in a convenient file for rapid access. As the name of the article states though, these bits of data are meant to be transitory in nature. They are intended for your computer to use when you are actually using the program that made them and they are designed to be used specifically for the session in which they were made. What that all means is easier to understand by way of an example. The most common type of temporary file is one that is made when you use the internet so we will talk about that.

When you go online the web pages you patronize will ask your pc for a bunch of information that it requires in order to be able to talk back and forth properly. Your pc will create a file with this data in it. That way every time you go to a different web page the computer just gives the new server a file that holds answers to all the questions thereby making your browsing faster. This process is fine, it makes using your system more enjoyable because things happen more quickly.

The issue sets in when your computer does not remove the files after you log off the web. A defect in the default setup of most browsers is that they are not configured to delete temporary files every time you disconnect. The pc will not need that file again since so many settings could have changed on your system, so a new file is generated each and every time you start a new browser session. Naturally over the course of time you are left with a bunch of old files that will never be used again and can lead to a number of troubles including file fragmentation (a subject for another day).

The scenario I just used is just one of the sources of temporary files, there are dozens others and a lot of them produce hundreds if not thousands of temp files daily. What that means is that this is a big problem. The good news is it is a simple issue to address, actually it is likely the simplest situation to fix and I advise getting familiar with the process for fixing this issue as it might give you confidence to fix some of the other more complex issues.

There is a free utility named Ccleaner that I use for fixing this problem. I am not affiliated with the program; I simply use it and recommend it to my customers. And yes even to my Dad. The utility is free and it is one of the simplest and easiest to use products on the market today. Simply download it, install it, and when it fires up you will be almost finished using it. Before you do anything else though, shut down any web browsers you have open. After you have shut down the open web browsers look towards the bottom of the program, there will be two buttons. Click on the one that is labeled ‘Analyze’, this will scan your computer for temporary and junk files. Once the scan is complete, click on the button that is labeled ‘Run Cleaner’, this will remove all the junk and temp files that it has found. It is as simple as that.

Now as I said in the beginning of this article there are eight areas of concern and we have simply addressed one of them. You should see some improvement in your pc’s performance but to get the most benefit you really need to correctof the eight areas. I will be providing advice on all the different areas on a website about windows startup problems.
